HOly Angels HIgh Grad

g">Was guest speaker at my old all girls high school yesterday, Holy Angels in Sydney, Nova Scotia, for Grad. It was so nostalgic being there after all this time. I cried! The grads were gorgeous. Principal Theresa MacKenzie is quite a mover and shaker, and I had a lot of fun with former principal, Sr. Agnes Cordeau, who showed me around the convent. AHH, wonderful trip down memory lane....Luke came with me, and filmed it all, what a sweetie...one of my fav days of all time!!

Mother's Day

I'm really worse than the kids. I've been promoting Mother's Day for months now. After 25 years raising kids, I'm so good at it. Jay just called from California with a pre mother's day greeting, and to make sure that his gift arrived, it's in front of me now. I think it's an ipod, but I don't tell him I know. Poor Luke lives here with me in Toronto, so he's really in trouble. Tomorrow he takes me to brunch, and then I get to call the whole day. "You'll probably make me search for scholarships online", he complained. He's right, I will, that is already on my list.

Two years ago, on May 10th, my own Mom died, so this Mother's Day will be the second anniversary of her death. I still miss her so much. Lots to think about on Mother's Day.. will never get past losing Mom.

Have a good one - I loved having my mother, and I love being a mother. Lots to celebrate today.

Award Nomination

'Amazing Brace' from Macleans Magazine, has been nominated for a National Magazine Award in the category of health and science. I'm so happy about that! I still receive letters daily from people looking for help for scoliosis, and I've received fantastic response from those who have been fitted with the brace. Adults are getting great pain relief, and I've heard from parents of children who are getting major curve correction. This brace is definitely keeping people, young and old, out of dangerous spinal fusion surgery. Amazing Brace is certainly the most rewarding story I"ve ever written. So many people are bein helped. Check out my scoliosis blog, I'm just getting it underway... there's a demand, sufferers are definitely desperate and need info...

Satisfaction! With my Luke and Jay!

A number of years ago, I abruptly left my great job as a television news anchor after having my first child. People were stunned. "How could you leave such a fantastic job", they asked me? I really didn't have an answer, except to say that, like so many other mothers in the animal kingdom, I just couldn't leave my baby. At the time, that seemed such a lame excuse, really, since most of my human colleagues, also moms, had no trouble slipping out to work every day. None of us needed the money, although all of us wanted the money, plus the many other perks that came with our fabulous jobs.

I promised myself that I would go back to my career the next year. But the next year turned into another year, and eventually another year turned into another son, and I never did go back to work.

"When you get older, you'll never say, 'I wish I spent less time with the kids", my wise mother had advised me when I struggled with my decision. Boy, was she right. Looking at the decade old picture above, I can see now that I really followed my heart back then. I had actually left nothing behind by leaving my job after all. The picture says it all doesn't it? Talk about the cat that swallowed the canary!
